How to Write A SEO friendly Blog Post That Really Ranks Higher

Writing an SEO friendly blog post is the most important step for Bloggers, Webmasters, and Marketers, because optimizing blog contents for Search Engines is the most important step so that you can notify Google about your presence and you can get rank higher in search engine results page (SERP).

But writing an SEO optimized blog post is not an easy task, but indeed it is very easy if you follow some instruction while writing your blog posts.

Most of the beginners think that they have written a well SEO optimized blog post but they are not doing the things in the right way because they just think for search engines (Google), not for readers. Readers are the backbone of your blog. While writing a blog post you should keep care of your visitors not just the search engines. In support to precede line “Suppose if you make your blog post fully SEO optimized but not users friendly you will surely start getting traffic but not for a long time because when any visitor will open your site’s results from SERP and does not find the information which your title is reflecting he will click on back button and search for some other results when this process will be done by hundreds of thousands of people Google will surely drop your post’s ranking (then ultimately site’s ranking) because Google keeps on looking how much time visitors are spending on your site? How they are interacting with your site etc.” All of this was just for making you understand that you should not work for your blog’s SEO; in fact, you should work for your visitors.

This guide relies on below aspects;

  • Understand your audience
  • Content Length
  • What are your writing about
  • Content Structure
  • Optimizing your images
  • Title tags
  • Meta Description
  • Page’s URL
  • Linking to high authority sites
  • Linking to your other contents (internal linking)

Understand Your Audience

Understand Your Audience
Understand Your Audience

Understanding your audience looks out of SEO, but it’s a part of SEO because optimizing your blog post just for Google is not enough, I have already discussed a lot about this so I will not waste your time and don’t want to lose the interest of my visitors (you).
For writing a perfect blog post you should understand your visitors, you will understand this point by below example, suppose your blog is about clothing and you start writing about technology then how will this look like? Will your existing visitors read your blog post about food? About 70% the answer is no because they don’t want to read about technology, in fact, they were bounded with you for your articles related to clothing, not about technology. Now if you keep on writing about technology your old visitors who were passionate to read about clothing might look for some other blogs related to clothing. I hope you have understood the importance of understanding your audience for an SEO optimized blog.

Content Length

Content Length
Content Length

The length of your contents plays a vital role in SEO of your blog posts. You should have listed to this phrase “Quality is king” and believe me most of the bloggers (even experts) say this mean lengthy contents but they are totally wrong. They say quality mean length, recently I have red an article on Born Blogger and the author was saying your contents should have at least 2000 words, but I did not agreed with him, because content length depends on many factors such as; the niche of your blog, on the category of your article, on your audience, on your search demands, all of these factors describe the length of your post, not this that you should have at least 2000 words on each post for ranking well.

In support to above paragraph, I have two blogs one is totally about technology there I wrote an article of about 700 – 800 words and on another blog I wrote many articles of more than 3000 + words but I don’t see those results which I see on 700 – 800 words long post, then I consider content length matters but not directly on the post, in fact, content length varies according to the niche of your blog post. I have one more point in support of above paragraph, consider you are writing about technology news then how can you write 2000 + words are at least 2000. I can bet any technology article with the single topic cannot be exceeded more than 1000 words even if you pull the content as much as you can.
So the conclusion is 2000 + words don’t rank higher for all kind of blog/sites, the length of contents varies according to the niche of your blog.

What are your writing about

What are your writing about

Your contents reflect your relation with your readers, so contents of your blog should be pure and will be helpful for your readers. SO, before you start writing any blog post just don’t think about the SEO of your post first, grab a cup of tea (You can take coffee) and think what you are writing about? Ponder on the points which you will describe in your blog post and finally, start writing you contents.
When you are done writing your content, just read it thoroughly and apply the below strategies to your blog post. All of the below strategies will be very helpful for your post’s SEO while your content will be useful for your reader this combination will make your contents viral.

Content Structure

Content Structure
Content Structure

My some readers will be thinking what am I doing? Because I said wrote your content first and structure it later, but here I will also describe this point. In the above point I said you should write your contents naturally for your readers, if you start arranging your contents first then you will definitely start doing some SEO tips (Do you not do?) with your contents and this may avoid you from writing a natural blog post. For example, SEO says your contents should be lengthy but if you start making your contents lengthy (without reasons) then your readers will be bored, there are much more SEO aspects which can prevent you from writing readers friendly post.

Optimizing your images

Optimizing your images
Optimizing your images

Images and videos are the necessary components of any blog post although we can refuse the use of videos for an SEO friendly blog post but refusing images in an SEO friendly blog post does not make sense, as a single image can describe hundreds of words. So you should use at least one image for your contents.
But there is a point does search engines look at the images? No search engines cannot understand your images that’s why there is an alternate method they detect the presence of images of your contents using the alt tag. Yes, the alt tag is the only way by which you can tell search engines there is an image in your content.
Images not only help your readers, instead, they are also very helpful for driving more and more traffic on your site. Nowadays people also look for Google images and when they found a stunning image in search results which meet their demands they immediately jump to your site, but there is one more point how search engines find which image should be displayed? Well, this is also done using alt tags, search engines analyze the images and reads the alt tags assigned to them, when any query that is similar to the alt tag assigned to your images is made, search engines also list your images in results.
There are some things which you should follow while using images on your contents;

  • Your images should be your, I mean they will not be copied.
  • Before you upload any image look at the name of the image does it reflecting your post’s title or keywords.
  • Use proper alt tags that are reflecting your post’s title or keywords.

Title Tags

Title Tags

Title tags are the most important part of your contents and must be optimized according to your contents. I have listed this point here because you should not choose the title of your blog post first, instead, you should write your content first and then read it thoroughly and then decide what should be the best title of your content. Choosing a perfect article for your content depends on following steps;

Analyze keywords of your article

Analyzing the keywords of your article is a very important step for making your post’s title SEO friendly so that your post can stand out of the crowd. If you are confused how can you analyze the keywords of your contents then don’t worry there are much keyword analyzer tools like SEMRUSH, Google Keyword Planner and much more. I use Google Keyword Planner for my blog.
First, decide a rough title of your content for example “how to boost your blog post” now open Google Keywords planner and check for the competitions of your keywords i.e. number of searches. After analyzing your keywords you will found some keywords which have many searches but low competition like this “How to write posts that really ranks”. Now I have found some keywords which I should use in my post’s title. So I can jump to next step.

Add new keywords to your title

Adding keywords mean adding the keywords which you had found in above step. Now I have found some keywords which can really boost my post so I have to insert those new keywords in the title of my contents. For example, my rough title was “How to boost your blog post” after analyzing the keywords I found some more keywords like “How to write posts that really ranks”. Now I can add these keywords in my rough title to make it more SEO friendly so that searchers can find my search result at the top of Google Search result page.
Finally, I decide the title of my blog as “How to Write An SEO friendly Blog Post That Really Ranks Higher”

Add number in title (optional)

Adding numbers in your post’s title makes the searchers eager to open your site’s results. For example, what will you choose?

  1. 5 tips to write an SEO-friendly blog post
  2. How to write an SEO-friendly blog post

About 70% people will select the first one because it is more attractive and describes what is in the whole article. Although numbers are not important, yet you can insert them to make your title more attractive and distinct from other. Why I did not insert the number in my post’s title. I did not do so because the inserting number in the title would have expended the length of my post’s title and I don’t like that.

Meta Description

Meta Description
Meta Description

Meta Description is very important for ranking your post in search result page because they give an idea to search engines as well as users what your content is about by a brief paragraph that is displayed below the search results in SERP.
Meta description cannot be ignored in any way that’s why it must be meaningful and rich with your content’s keywords, but make sure description should be of 150 characters, if you exceed it then search engines can also ignore it and can choose any other part of your content to show as description but you can use fewer characters if you want but they should be minimum 100.
Description also causes the CTR (Click through rate) because most of the people also look at the description of the results to find the information they are looking for, you must have noticed one thing when you search for anything in Google some parts of description are bold, these parts are taken from your search words which you had typed in search bar and are kept bold so that searcher can easily find the piece of information he is looking for.
If you have written your article in 2 hours then you should spend at least 10 minutes on the description of your content and should choose the best description which can describe your content in a single second and can attract peoples is SERP.

Page’s URL

Your page’s URL (Universal Resource Locator) also helps the optimization of your blog posts, but it is not as important as other factors. According to Matt Cutts Google also consider the page’s URL as a ranking factor but not too much, so you should not bound your keywords in URLs, instead, your URLs should be simple and must contain two to three keywords so that if your readers want to jump on your site’s specific page they can easily get your pages.

Linking to High Authority sites

Linking to High Authority sites
Linking to High Authority sites

Linking to other high authority sites also plays a vital role in ranking of your blog posts, the simple reason is when you link to other high authority sites your visitors can understand that the things you are describing are right that’s why you have linked other sites and the biggest wish of Google is that the visitors can find the information they are looking for and that information should be correct that’s why linking to other high authority sites is also very important factor for the ranking of your page.
While linking to other sites you should take care of some things these are as below.

  • Always link to those sites which have a good reputation in Google’s eyes.
  • Never link to sites without any reason.
  • Use proper anchor text which inserting links, this help Google what are you linking.
  • Never link to a site which is either spam or have not a good reputation.
  • While linking to high authority sites use Do Follow links, although if you want to link to a low reputation site then always remember to use no follow links. No Follow links are very useful because Google reads them but don’t give them a little importance while do follow links are fully entertained.

Linking to your own contents

Linking to your other contents is also very important, because when you link your old contents to your new contents your readers often read they and resultantly visitors spend more time on your site and your page views are also increased while your bonus rate is decreased.
Before you start linking your old contents to your new contents read below internal linking guidelines

  • Try to not link to unrelated contents.
  • Always use perfect and attractive words while linking.
  • Use rich keywords as anchor text, because Google does not look at the URL of linked page, instead, Google read the anchor text.
  • Link maximum 3 other pages per 1000 words.

Benefits of linking to other contents

There are many benefits of linking your old contents to your new contents some are described below.

  • Visitors spend more time on your site.
  • Your page views are increased.
  • If some contents are not indexed in Google index they are also indexed because Google bots also look for internal links and recrawl them.

These were some instruction which you can follow to write a perfect SEO optimized blog post. I am waiting for your comments, and please notify me if I have missed something by dropping a comment.
Good Luck!
